About this Page

This is the blog page of what is currently called the Glarean Project. Here, I will post in irregular intervals about the progress I am making, or at least that is the plan. What is the Glarean Project, I hear you ask. It is a sort of learning experiment, in which I try to publish excerpts from the famous Dodekachordon, written in the 16th century by the humanist scholar Heinrich Glarean. By making some sample chapters from this book available in a digital edition, I hope to learn a thing or two about editing, digital humanities, and digital musicology in particular. The project is hosted as a Github Repository. Further information on my motivation and methods can be found there, in the Proposal. If you want to stay updated with the latest additions to this blog, simply subscribe to the RSS feed via the link in the footer.

More Information

Portrait A few words about myself: My name is Janosch Umbreit, I am currently studying for my Master’s Degree in historical musicology at the Universität Regensburg, Germany. Before that, I studied English Literature. As a scholar, my main interests lie with Renaissance Studies, in particular with the humanist intellectual movement and the reformation in Europe. Apart from that, I find myself increasingly interested in the methods and possibilities of the digital humanities. The combination of these two fields has led to the Glarean Project.

Apart from these academic interests, I spend my time working with typography and calligraphy. I try to support and incorporate the ideals of open science and free and open source software where I can. I have also participated as an actor / a cellist / a singer in various theatre productions / musical performances / concerts, the traces of which can be found on the internet by the curious.
